Resolutions make me nuts. Most of you have heard me refer to my "Monkey Mind", a term my yoga teacher gave to me for my overactive mind. Well, add a resolution to an over stimulated mind and watch it implode. Good thing I'm enjoying a glass of wine while I write this newsletter or it might actually happen. Do I really need to make resolutions this year? What about my children, can't they resolve to follow directions and not act like...children all the time. I guess that would be too much for one woman to wish for. I read this week's Wall Street Journal wine article by Jay McInerney and he had 10 wine resolutions. I can't let the Wall Street Journal get the better of me, so here are my wine resolutions for 2012.
Drink more Organic Wines: I guess this first one is easy. After all I sell a large amount of these wines. But the thought of buying and drinking non-organic products right now, just gives me the creeps. I have spent the last few weeks listening to webcasts (this one you have to see - http://youtu.be/rixyrCNVVGA), cider producers (Scrumpy Cider), and winemakers explain to me why they farm or buy organically and I'm just fed up. Do we really need to put profits over our personal health? In my opinion, it's just getting more and more disgusting every day. I honestly hesitate before I buy anything anymore. At least I know I can drink the wine I sell, and they only thing I have to worry about is the cost.
Give white wines a chance: You "red wine snobs" need to let go. I mean, how can you really hate every white wine? Hate is such a strong word and it's probably because you just haven't met the right white. A white can stare you down, and scream, "I am not lightweight; I'm powerful and could whip that Cabernet into a blush with one punch." So, if you are going to give a white wine a chance, you need to try the '10 Dominio "Still Life" Viognier. I recently had a customer who claimed she hated white wines consume a bottle with me late one night. And guess what ... all she could say was, "I thought I hated white wine?" Give us a chance and we'll find you the right white.
Chuck the fancy wine glasses: Do we really need 15 different wine glasses for 15 different wine varieties? I know for a fact that wine glasses can elevate the taste of the wine. They are created so that certain varietals fall on the correct place on your palate for the prefect wine experience. But, do we really need all that? Isn't wine meant to be enjoyed every day with good food, friends, and family? Do we have to add another level of haughtiness to everything enjoyable? Can't we just sip wine from any glass vessel we have around? Wine is much more important than the prefect glassware.
Ok, enough of my "You should do this and that" rant; looking for something fun to do this week, check out our lineup of upcoming events:
